Browse used drill tap centers — high-speed CNC for drilling & rigid tapping. BT30/BT40, 10,000–20,000 rpm, fast ATC. Fanuc/Mitsubishi. Pan-India.
A Drill Tap Center (DTC) is a high-speed CNC machining center built specifically for rapid drilling and rigid tapping operations, with lighter cutting forces and cycle times that a general-purpose VMC cannot match. Unlike a VMC, a DTC uses a lightweight spindle head optimized for high acceleration: spindle speeds of 10,000–20,000 rpm, ATC cycle times under 1 second in some models, and rapid rates of 30–60 m/min. This makes DTCs highly productive on parts with a large number of holes and tapped features — aluminum housings, circuit board test fixtures, small prismatic components, and medical device parts.
Key specifications to evaluate are axis travels (X/Y/Z), table size, spindle taper (BT30 is standard on most DTCs for light, high-speed cuts; BT40 on machines handling heavier side loads), spindle speed range, and ATC pocket count. The controller must support synchronous rigid tapping (G84 with actual spindle encoder feedback) — verify this before purchase, as floating-tap head tapping is fundamentally different in thread quality and speed. Rapid rate is a primary cycle-time driver on high-hole-count parts; compare actual axis rapids to the specification.
Machine City stocks used DTCs from Japanese brands including Fanuc Robodrill, Matsuura, Mori Seiki, and Sodick, as well as Korean brands like Doosan and domestic machines from MTAB. Used DTCs at 35–55% of new cost offer a fast way to add high-speed small-part capacity alongside your existing VMC floor.

Buyer’s Guide
Confirm the machine has a spindle encoder installed and that G84 synchronous rigid tapping is enabled in the controller parameters. Non-rigid (floating tap head) machines cannot achieve consistent thread quality at high speeds.
Run the ATC through full capacity with tools loaded. Note chip-to-chip ATC time; this is a primary cycle-time factor on high-feature-count parts. Check gripper arms for wear and the magazine drive for binding.
Test at maximum rated spindle speed — high-speed spindle bearings are the first to fail on heavily used DTCs. Listen for noise above 8,000 rpm. Any vibration at high speed suggests bearing wear.
DTCs typically have smaller tables than VMCs. Confirm your fixture fits and that T-slot spacing and width match your existing fixturing hardware.
BT30 is standard on most DTCs but limits rigidity under side load. If you need significant flute milling alongside drilling, prefer a BT40 machine.

High-speed aluminum machining produces fine coolant mist. Check whether the machine has a tight splash guard and whether mist collector provisions (exhaust port or built-in unit) are present.
