About the Category
CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine tools are the backbone of modern precision manufacturing — they execute complex cutting programs with micron-level repeatability, removing the variability of manual machine operation and enabling unattended production runs. A CNC machining center, turning center, or vertical turret lathe follows a digital program to control every axis movement, spindle speed, and toolchange, producing consistent parts from the first piece to the ten-thousandth.
The Indian manufacturing sector — automotive components, aerospace, defense, hydraulics, pumps, and general engineering — has invested heavily in CNC capacity over the past two decades. As Indian OEMs and tier-1 suppliers upgrade to newer CNC equipment, a healthy used market has emerged for machines 5–20 years old that still have years of productive life ahead. Machine City sources used CNC machinery from Japan, Canada, and the USA — countries where well-maintained machines are retired as technology advances, not because the machines are worn out.
Our CNC machinery inventory spans five subcategories: VMCs (Vertical Machining Centers) for prismatic part milling; HMCs (Horizontal Machining Centers) for production-volume machining with automatic pallet changers; CNC Turning Centers for shaft, bushing, and rotational part production; CNC VTLs (Vertical Turret Lathes) for large-diameter flange and ring machining; and Drill Tap Centers for high-speed drilling and tapping of small-to-medium parts.

Buyer’s Guide
The CNC controller determines programming capability and long-term spare parts cost. Fanuc 0i-M/T, 21i, and 18i are well-supported across India. Older Fanuc 6M and 11M controllers have limited spare part availability — factor this into your evaluation.
Measure backlash with a dial indicator on each linear axis. Backlash above 0.01 mm on a machining center or turning center indicates worn ballscrews. Estimate ₹15,000–50,000 per axis for replacement and adjust your offer accordingly.
Request the spindle hours from the controller diagnostics menu. Run the spindle through all speed ranges and listen carefully for bearing noise or vibration. A quiet, smooth spindle at full rated speed is the single most important health indicator on any CNC machine.
Japanese CNC machines run on 200V 3-phase; Indian mains is 415V. Confirm whether a step-down transformer is included with the machine or must be sourced separately. A 25–50 kVA transformer adds ₹50,000–2,00,000 to total acquisition cost — budget for it upfront.

Run the full ATC tool-change cycle with tools loaded in all pockets, or index through all turning center turret stations. The toolchange mechanism is one of the highest-wear components on any CNC machine. Hesitation, noise, or alarms during this test are significant red flags.
