Browse used lathe chucks — hydraulic, manual, pneumatic. 3-jaw, 4-jaw, collet, magnetic. Chuck sizes from 150 to 500 mm. Pan-India availability.
A machine chuck is the workholding device mounted on the spindle nose of a lathe or turning center to grip and rotate the workpiece during machining. Chuck type, jaw configuration, and actuation method profoundly affect productivity, accuracy, and the range of workpieces a machine can handle. Hydraulic chucks (actuated by a hydraulic cylinder through the spindle) are standard on CNC turning centers — they clamp and release at the press of a button, allow consistent, programmable clamping force, and are essential for high-production bar and billet turning. Manual chucks (tightened with a chuck key) are found on conventional lathes and are lower cost but require more operator time per part change.
The key specifications are chuck size (outer diameter, which typically matches the machine's spindle capacity — a 250 mm chuck on a 250 mm spindle nose), jaw configuration (3-jaw self-centering for round parts, 4-jaw independent for non-round and eccentric work, collet for small-diameter precision bar stock), and through-bore (which allows bar stock to pass through the spindle from the back — essential for bar feeding production). Actuation type (hydraulic, pneumatic, or manual) determines the clamping mechanism and the corresponding spindle-mounted cylinder requirement.
Machine City stocks used chucks from Kitagawa (Japan), SMW Autoblok, Howa, and Rohm (Germany) — all common on imported CNC turning centers — as well as Indian-made chucks. Chucks are often sold with the turning center when we acquire a machine, but are also available separately for shops upgrading workholding.

Buyer’s Guide
Confirm the chuck diameter matches your machine's spindle nose adapter. Common spindle nose standards (A2-5, A2-6, A2-8) determine the mounting plate required — verify compatibility before purchase.
Mount the chuck and measure runout at the jaw face with a dial indicator. New chucks typically achieve 0.01–0.02 mm TIR; worn jaws may show 0.1 mm or more. Worn jaws can be re-ground (soft jaws) or replaced (hard jaws).
For hydraulic chucks, check the draw tube cylinder for oil leaks and verify clamping stroke is within specification. A cylinder with internal seal wear provides inconsistent clamp force — a production and safety issue.
If through-bore is required for bar feeding, confirm the bore diameter matches your bar stock diameter. Bore sizes are fixed and cannot be changed.
Kitagawa, Howa, and SMW Autoblok replacement jaw sets are available from authorized dealers in India. Less common brands may require importing parts or fabricating locally.
