Browse used step down transformers for imported CNC machines — 415V to 200/220V, single & three phase, 5–100 kVA. Essential for Japanese & European machines.
A step-down transformer reduces the incoming voltage to a lower level required by the connected equipment. In the Indian industrial context, step-down transformers are essential for imported CNC machine tools — particularly Japanese machines designed for 200V 3-phase (India's standard is 415V 3-phase) and certain European machines requiring 380V. Without the correct step-down transformer, an imported machine cannot be connected to Indian mains supply safely. Voltage mismatch damages CNC controllers, servo drives, spindle motors, and power supplies.
The key specification on a step-down transformer is the kVA rating, which must be equal to or greater than the total connected load of the machine. A VMC with a 15 kW spindle and 3 × 2 kW servo drives has an approximate total load of 21 kW; a transformer rated at 25–30 kVA provides adequate headroom for startup surge currents. Input and output voltage must exactly match your supply voltage and the machine's requirement. Phase — single or three-phase — must match the machine's power supply specification.
Machine City regularly stocks used step-down transformers from Indian manufacturers (Kirloskar, Genus, Servomax) and imported units that come bundled with the machines we trade. These are typically sold alongside the machine they were paired with, but are also available individually.

Buyer’s Guide
Calculate your machine's total connected load (spindle motor + servo drives + auxiliary power). Select a transformer rated at 1.25–1.5× the calculated load to handle startup surge and future accessories.
Confirm the transformer input voltage matches your facility supply (usually 415V 3-phase in India). Some older industrial facilities may have 440V; confirm before installation.
Verify the output voltage matches your machine's requirement exactly — typically 200V for Japanese machines, 220V for some European machines. A 10% mismatch is usually tolerable, but a 20% mismatch will damage the machine.
An insulation resistance test (Megger test) between primary, secondary, and core should show >100 MΩ. Low insulation resistance indicates deteriorated winding insulation — a fire and shock risk.
Inspect for oil leaks (oil-cooled types), burnt smell (indicating overload history), and corrosion on terminals. Check that all tap connections are secure and the nameplate is legible.
